Keynote Presentation by Dr. Claire Major Howard, Professor of Higher Education at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Recent research on motivation and learning indicates that for students to be successful, they have to value learning, they have to expect to succeed, and they have to be active participants in their learning. In this session, Professor Major will describe the cognitive principles of learning that foster student engagement. She will also identify active learning techniques for promoting it.
