Academic Freedom and Civil Discourse in the Bryant Classroom In-Person
A recent survey by the AAC&U and the AAUP asked faculty about their perspectives, attitudes, and experiences around Academic Freedom in the classroom. A third of the faculty members surveyed believe there has been a decline in Academic Freedom and about half of those surveyed believe that they could face professional repercussions for expressing views freely or covering controversial subjects. Findings also demonstrated that despite these challenges, faculty believe in the power of civil discourse and being intentional about inviting perspectives from a variety of viewpoints in the classroom. How are faculty at Bryant navigating these issues in the classroom and how might we better prepare ourselves for challenges in the future? Join us for a conversation to learn about and discuss insights from the AAC&U/AAUP report, and explore opportunities to promote academic freedom and encourage civil discourse in Bryant classrooms.
